BOB GALLUCCI, Ed.D.

Inducted 2010

         

Dr. Bob Gallucci was born March 21, 1951. He started weight training at age 15 (1). He competed in bodybuilding from 1968 until 1981. As of the Spring 1982 issue of The Natural Bodybuildier, Gallucci had competed in 41 contests (1). Notable titles include the 1969 Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Teen Mr. America, the 1974 AAU Collegiate Mr. America and the 1981 Natural Bodybuilders of America (NBBA) Natural Mr. America. During the 1970’s and 1980’s he wrote articles for Iron Man and Muscular Development, which suggested the healthy lifestyle and to not use drugs. He appeared on covers of Muscular Development (November 1974), The Natural Bodybuilder (Spring 1982), and the Christian Bodybuilding Association’s (CBA) Power (March 1982). With his father, Bob owned and operated a successful bodybuilding gym called Gallucci’s Gym from 1975-1985. He promoted an annual Mr. Gallucci’s Gym competition in Connecticut (3).

 

Dr. Gallucci has been committed to a life-long pursuit of drug-free bodybuilding and has never taken any form of anabolic/androgenic steroid or growth hormone (2). He worked with approximately 22,000 students during a 32-year career and has always encouraged his students to remain drug-free. Bob and his wife Patty raised two children in Connecticut. Bob was a high school principal, a school superintendent and an assistant dean at Central Connecticut State University. Bob earned his doctoral degree in educational leadership in 1998. Today, Bob is retired, lives in Florida with Patty and he still trains six days a week.

 

Bob competed against Iron Age bodybuilders such as Mike Mentzer, Boyer Coe, Chris Dickerson, Ken Waller, Paul Grant, Albert Beckles, Steve Michalik, Mike Dayton, Greg Deferro, Kalman Scalik, Dave Johns, Tom Platz, Ken Covington, Bill St. John, Will Witaker, Bill Seno, Bob Birdsong, Pete Grymkowski, Anibal Lopez, Chuck Buser, Curt Haywood, Tyrone Youngs, Ed Corney, Carl Smith, Ellington Darden, Jim Morris, Casey Viator, Bill Grant, Ron Tuefel and more. Some of his friends included Dennis Tinnerino, John Grimek, Bob Hoffman, John Terpak, Leo Stern, Mike Katz and Joe Nista, Jr.
